Help Visual Voice Mail

What is Visual Voice Mail supposed to do. According to AT&T, I have it enabled. the message I receive from VVM is no save emails found. Is this why my phone notification is screwed up some times I get a 1 on the phone icon, other times, there is no number and I find out after the fact that I had 3 new Voice messages. Why is my oldest VM mentioned first before the message I ah just barely mussed? SJR1950

It seems there is a setup process you have to go through in order to use AT&T Visual Voicemail.

1. From the home screen, tap theApps icon.
2. Tap Visual Voicemail.
3. Tap CALL VOICEMAIL.
4. Enter the voicemail password, then tap END CALL.
5. Re-enter the voicemail password, then tap NEXT.
6. Tap FINISH.
7. Visual voicemail is now ready for use.

Thank you for you response. I have tried what you suggested and tapped the visual voicemail icon but I didn't see a call voice mail icon that I could tap. I just had the message "NO VOICEMAIL. Pull down to refresh. I have no idea what or how to pull down.
