Help Voice call with data disconnected?

Sorry if this is dumb. :/ I've been turning off mobile data when I'm home and connected to wifi. If I receive a phone call, how is that transmitted with mobile data off? Does it use 1X? Or how does that work?

So could there be (in general, barring any issues the Nex has) be better call quality with 3G/4G turned on, than having it off?

No, not until they push voip calls over 3g/4g in the long term future.

So... I guess I'm confused with the radio issues, then. If the 4G or 3G signal is bad, the 1X signal can still be fine, right? People seems to be talking about few bars of 3G or 4G, and dropped or poor quality calls as the same issue.
