Help Voice Calls????

I was looking at samsungs site on this item and at the bottom of the feature page it claims it can make voice calls , yet i see no options for this.

"The convenience of voice calling from GALAXY Tab 2 (7.0) is yours at all times, great back-up should you ever forget your phone and need to make or receive a call. Embedded receiver ensures good quality sound or go with wireless BT earpiece."

Google Talk is installed by default, and IIRC they show headphones.

Did you not use GT to hook it up?

Maybe im missing something but i wasn't aware Google Talk could dial out like that, i am an avid talk user and have never seen that option, also what they are showing on the website doesn't look like google talk.

Also if you look at the pics there is a phone icon on the main screen, which is defiantly not on mine.

voice dialing != voice calls

Hi SYNTRIX you are supposedly SENIOR member and one would expect especially in a FORUM like this, trying to HELP and GUIDE other members. Answers should be meaningful and understandable to all members - even to novices of the subject, otherwise why waste everbody's time, including your own.
PLE...ASE look at your above answer, to a simple question! What exactly are you trying to convey? Please expand in lay man's terms, if you can manage with some humility. Thanks.

There is not a cellular radio in this device. Maybe that was too obvious.

THANK you sir. Being a complete novice in this field or tech. all I would like to know if "great back-up should you ever forget your phone and need to make or receive a call." is possible, and if yes, HOW? If not any other simple solution for an idiot like me to make/receive calls?

The 3G version of this tablet will support voice calls. it will not be sold in the US but can be imported. The model number will be GT-P3100.

Kind of hesitant to get in on this mainly because my knowlege is very limited but I think that Skype can run on this unit and I think that something like Google Talk can be used like a telephone - all through a wifi connection.
All of the methods I've run across cost (Skype) or possibily have some limiitations (Google Talk) but there appears to be ways of using the Tab like a telephone. I don't think it would be a good cell phone replacement but could, with some work, do in a pinch.
Oh and remember when you are reading descriptions on a manufacture's site, they are "ad" copy and to be taken as such, kind of like real estate or ebay descriptions.
Good Luck!

could you imaging holding this thing up to your head in public?

For some reason I flashed on a TV ad where the item was a headset device with a suction cup that you stuck your cell phone onto for "universal hands free" setup (hey, they were two for $10 plus S&H). Don't see why it wouldn't work for the tab......I don't think it would look as silly as a 10" tablet plastered against your head.

skype, gtalk, yahoo android client, fring, and more....

It's not a cell phone replacement because there is no cell radio for voice.

You could make phone calls with it using apps like text+ and you have to be on wifi. Out here in Brooklyn if youre an optimum online subscriber you get to use free WiFi all over Brooklyn. The coverage is insane!

Yes, being able to use the .GT2 as phone would be cool. Especially if your using your smart smart phone as a hotspot. You won't burn up all your minutes. Of course an unlimited data plan is a must. Has anyone found an inexpensive/free app for Voip? I wish that Google voice would support this option.

I do not like google talk. I had a sony aino earlier and with it i used to press and hold the power key and enable voice dialing. Does P3100 have a feature like this? And, how do i enable samsung TTS?
