Help voice command using headphones

I'd like to use voice commands to control my phone hands free. I can do most things using Bluetooth and i get the responses back asking if i meant so and so or whatever so i don't have to actually look at my phone. The problem is when i use my headphones plugged in to the phone i don't get those prompts, just silence. I have to look at the phone to look at the written prompts. Is there a way to have Voice act like it does using Bluetooth with non-bluetooth headphones?
