Can anybody tell if i can use voice commands on the s2 without being connected to net, i do not have unlimited net access and drive for a living would be a great for me if so, especially the voice text part.

It's easy to tell.

Long press the power button and de-activate Data network mode, then test it.

It didn't work on mine though :(.

PS Don't you have any data included in your plan? I use the net a fair bit and I've only used 200MB in two weeks so a few searches are not going to push you over the limit unless it's tiny.

I never ever turn my phone off except when I'm flying and it's not caused any problems with data usage. The only time I turn the data connection off is when I'm working abroad, which happens fairly frequently but not for long periods.

I would be astonished if you get anywhere near 500GB unless you are downloading lots of music or large videos. Otherwise you'll struggle to use that much whether your phone is on all the time or not.

I'm on O2 in UK. If I just go to o2.co.uk (not using wifi) I don't even need to log in and I can check my remaining minutes and data allowance in a few seconds.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Try it for a week and check, you'll see it's no big deal.

answer no

it is recording and sending your speech over data network to be analyzed then text translated back
they have not started putting speech pattern recognition hardware in phones yet where all processing is done on the chip, but rumors say apple is thinking about it
