every time i attempt to use the voice dialing feature built-in the the android OS 2.2.2, the phone does a web search instead of searching my contacts. The contacts are saved under my t-mobile account. suggestions??

Welcome to the forums.
It might differ on your handset, but if you select Settings -> Search -> Searchable Items, that should allow you to specify what items are searched for when you press the search Button.
