Help voice mail change??

Has anyone had a change to the way voice mail notification is received? We have 2 evo's a 4g and shift. yesterday noticed that the way I had received notification of a VM had changed. I used to get a notification in the notification bar, and when i touched the notification it would bring up a screen looking like a voice recorder and play would run from the phone itself.
yesterday i got a text message //ANDROID:401-###### has sent you sprint voice message. call 408-970-0000 to listen (that is the number) MMSN16186f3826,V69zStdDL4b//CM"
I called that number got basically nothing. had couple of choices for voice mail..
further checks of voicemail i stopped recieving that message and got text message 401-398- has sent you a voice sms message. call to listen" no idea who or what to call.

chatted for over hour with SPRINT could not get CSR to understand, I am getting voice mail, but it has changed.
I tried calling the 408 # and it tells me i have voice messages but cannot get at them. if I use the long press on #1 on keypad, it calls voice mail the way it did before smart phones....
Any Ideas

I have posted in about every forum that is available, and no one seems to be able to help......this is very annoying to me because its like we went back 2 steps in the voicemail technology.....someone needs to figure out how to fix this...SPRINT...

I thought I was alone in this matter, Sorry for you trouble, but we cannot be alone. Some one will come up with a fix I hope

Last night I backed up my phone and did a hard reset.

Once the phone rebooted the voice mail started functioning correctly and the text messages for voice mail stopped showing.

It was a PITA but it works so far, I'll update again later today.

It started getting the VM Text Messages again.

I uninstalled Handsent SMS and it started working correctly.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Do you think Handcent is the problem???

did you reset again???

No I did do any type of reset after removing Handcent.
I just tested it and its still working correctly with Handcent removed.

Here is how you can test.

Go to voicemail screen

  1. menu
  2. compose
  3. put in your phone number in To box
  4. tap record (wait a second or two)
  5. tap stop
  6. then tap send
You have just send a VM message to yourself.

I did the same, It also worked for me.:) I wish there was someway for boths applications to play nice together.:confused::confused:

you can try the delete and reinstall of Handsent. The uninstall has so far worked for me, going to wait a while before reinstal

There is a setting in the most recent version of handcent that is causing this issue.

Under settings: application settings: "default messaging application" MUST be set to "disable". If not, you will see the problem described by the OP. The phone needs the default messaging application to function. Voicemails are sent to the phone via a SMS#.

I confirm this solution, Disable the "default messaging application" and restart handcent....everything should be good to go at this point.

When I do this I get notifications from both the default messenger and Handcent. I don't want to see it twice. Am I doing something wrong?

Just go into the settings of the default messaging client and turn the notifications off there. Now you will only see them from handcent.

I am actually having the same problems as the OP but I am using GOSMS instead. There is nothing that sounds like it relates to clicking a box for disable default application. Any ideas?

I've been having the same problem with voicemail and GoSMS. Visual Voicemail also doesn't work. I tried a couple of suggestions from AF, both of which worked temporarily. Hard reset also corrected the problems but only for about 30 minutes. The tech at the local Sprint store said something like "yeah, lots of people are having those issues right now. Sorry for the inconvenience. " Sprint customer service is sending me a new Evo. If it hasn't been updated already, I probably won't do so until more of the bugs are worked out.

Could you please explain how to disable default messaging application? I tried to follow the instructions but I do not see that option on the Evo Shift.

I just had this problem, looked online and found this string on another forum (2008!). This at least got the 'old' format back where I could view my voice to text or call in how I did before this weird stuff happened and I couldn't access my voicemail. I hope it helps you too:

Re: HTC Evo Voice SMS problem...
If he is still having a problem with the voice sms notification instead of getting voicemail, have him do this. It will fix the problem:

If HTC HERO, EVO, EVO Shift, Sanyo Zio, Samsung Moment, Intercept, Transform, or Epic:
Update Data profile.
Turn phone off and back on.
Go to voicemail screen.
Click Menu > Compose.
Click and then enter activate@vvm.sprint.com. (v v m, not wm)
6. Click Record > Stop > Send.
7. Wait a few minutes for old voicemail notifications to deliver

I had this issue as well. for me it was a simple setting in handcent. open handcent select menu/settings/application settings/default messaging application. disable this. you will still get your sms and mms through handcent but it must do something funky with how your phone receives its VM notification from sprint. seems to be working fine now. I'm getting my messages from the server into the visual voicemail instead of sms. I should mention I did the tip above too where you send a short vm message to the activation but it wasnt until i changed the handcent setting that I started receiving my old vm's. weird. I thought it was a gingerbread/maintenance update glitch. glad its fixed
