Help Voice Search: Launching it with bluetooth headset?

Hi, this is my first post in this forum, and the EVO is my first Android phone. Im glad to have found this awesome Android community.

Ok so my Evo is not rooted, and I do not want to do so. With that out of the way, I have a simple question:

You know that cool, relatively new Voice Search that lets you text message, use navigation, etc, just through voice commands? Well, as many of you may know, if you pair a bluetooth headset with the EVO, and then press the voice dial button on the headset, it ll bring up Voice Dialer, an application that is known for not really working., at all. Just as when you press and hold the search button on the EVO Voice Search pops up, is there a way to make (map?) Voice Search to a bluetooth headset's voice dial button? In other words, so that when you press the button, instead of voice dialer, voice search will come up? That would be freaking awesome. There has to be a way! Please tell me there is a way..T_T

Thank you very much.

come on guys, there is gotta be at least one person out there who thinks thinks using the awesome google voice search features through a bluetooth headset without pulling the phone out of your pocket (for the most part) is an awesome idea! Please somebody help T_T

I too am curious about this. I have the BlueAnt S4 and I'd really prefer it to bring up Voice Search and not the voice dialer when I initiate phone commands.

Me too -- I'm coming from Windows Mobile 6 -- where I could tap on my bluetooth button and launch Microsoft Voice Command.

Google Voice Search needs to do this too :)

After much searching of google and trying to be clever with the app store, I found an app that can be set up to do this task. It is called "Bluetooth Launch", and once you've installed and opened it, you will see a big list of possible things to launch with the bluetooth button.

To get it to open Voice Search, I clicked the Voice Search drop-down, then checked the different options to see which one does the right thing. I'm not sure if it is the same between phones, but on the Nexus S, it was the option that says: com.google.android.voicesearch.RecognitionActivity

Hope it works for you.

You could also go to menu, settings, applications, pull up Voice Dialer and hit "Clear Defaults". then press search button on phone, or call button on BT device and select which action to use.

Or Download Vlingo which blows all other options away...

What Droid needs is an excellent voice search/dialer that works with or without connectivity so you could use it even if you are not connected to your carrier or wi-fi. Although a very efficient app, the problem with Vlingo is that it needs a connection to operate.

That would require an incredibly large on board system... For processing and data

I've been wanting this for a long time. Voice Dialer sucks and i had a Jawbone Icon then the blue Ant Q2 and am now getting as Jawbone Era next week. I guess I'll use Vlingo but voice search is the best and works so well I wish ti could pair with my headset. Does it work well using bluetooth launch as someone recommended. I know this thread is old but I was googling voice search with headsets and this thread came up and since I'm a member I thought I would reply. I have an Evo 3D BTW.
