Voice search on the galaxy nexus...

One feature I use a lot on my android phones is pressing and holding the search button to says stuff like, "navigate to..." Now, the nexus seems to have the search button in that search widget, and I've heard that you can take that widget off. I would rather take the widget off to free up home screen space, but then would lose the search button.

Do you guys think they will have another way to use voice search besides using that widget?

I'm sort of upset over this also. I use the search button a lot, its the only way I ever give voice commands

They did away with it because the all mighty Galaxy Nexus now uses mind control rather than speech recognition. Take that Apple!

Kidding aside, if there is no official solution, I'm sure there will be a few roms that support a feature like this. I wouldn't be too worried.

Looks like ICS might be a step backward for voice use in general if there is no simple way to initiate it. And apparently no long-press actions on the soft buttons either?! I always use the damn search key and long-press for speech search!
It's a GOOGLE phone, it's supposed to be all about search!
Really NOT sold on their ditching a majority of button and voice functionality so they can have a phone that's "slick". The ultimate slick gizmo would be a phone with no interface and no features. Oooo, just a solid slab of black glass. Grrr.

Google can push out system updates within one or two days of completing them, so I'm sure they could push out an update which gives you an option to put a search button along the bottom.

There is already a patch from the community that incorporates the search button. Check the Root forum.
