Got the EPIC the day they came out and this problem has just started to happen.
I don't have a voicemail at the moment and I go to task manager and clear all apps, including voicemail, and the icon is gone. But as soon as I get a text I get the text icon and the voicemail icon in the top left.
Very strange!
