Voicemail Icon Will Not Go Away!

This just happened about an hour ago.
I have Google Voice but only for Voicemail.
Suddenly the voicemail icon appeared in my notifications drawer. I didn't get a new message. No settings were changed. I've had Google VM for months. The damn icon will not go away. It says I have 1 message. I checked the web site, selected all my messages, marked them as read (just in case). I have no unread messages or voicemails. There is no reason for this. It is driving me crazy! Can anyone help? Thanks!

Try a battery pull yet? I used to have that happen on my Thunderbolt at times, it would show an unread message, I'd check everything, and it wouldn't go away. Usually a battery pull would resolve that for me (wasn't often that it happened tho). Other than that...not really sure. Haven't seen it on the Nexus yet.

You have a verizon voicemail somehow. You have to disable your google voicemail temporarily, retrieve your verizon voicemail, then the icon will go away. It happens when Verizon itself sends you a system voicemail.

^This. It happened to me once somehow and was maddening until someone suggested that I try this to fix it. I did it and it took care of the problem once and for all.

So I was worried about disabling Google VM for fear of boinking something. Call me overly paranoid. I called Verizon. They are aware of this issue. They deleted the Google VM #, starts with 518. Had me call *86. Sure nuff, there was a voicemail that snuck in there somehow on the Verizon server. Verizon then re-enabled the 518 Google VM #. The Tech said this sometimes happens when you are on a call and decline another one. Thanks for the tip, Steven.

P.S. Verizon said they will never send me a system voicemail.

Glad you got it fixed as I _think_ I was the one of those who helped Cincybearcatfan with this issue for the Moto A855 (OG Droid) somewhere.

Just for the readers. . . . .
