Voicemail notification not going away

I've seen this problem on other phones, some people have said to force close the VM app or clear notifications. But i've tried closing the app and there is no clear button. I have no new voicemail's, i even deleted all of the ones in my inbox. It still says i have 1 new voice mail. How the heck do i get rid of this thing? Tried pulling battery/restarting multiple times...........

Yeah that would be annoying. Could be your sim card. Apparently it causes random things to happen if it goes bad.

Are you using Google voice? A few times in the past with gv I've gotten calls at the same time and when gv is handling the first call the second gets dumped into the Verizon voicemail system. I had to deactivate gv, open the vz voicemail to delete and then reactivate gv.
