Help Volume controls disabled?

XBo

Lurker
Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anybody else was having this problem. When I go into Settings/Device/Sound/Volume, I can set the "Music, video, games and other media" slider control to whatever I want but the others (ringtone, notifications & system) are disabled.

The icons next to the disabled controls all have a slash through them which I'm guessing indicates that they are in fact disabled but I have no idea how to enable them. Oddly, I can move the ringtone slider but it always snaps back to the left which effectively mutes the ringer.

It's probably a simple setting somewhere but I can't seem to figure it out. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Have sounds been set to silent somewhere? If you haven't messed with the notification pull-down yet, there should be a sound/vibrate only/silent toggle there. If that's not the issue, then I would try cycling the power on the phone with a minimum wait of five seconds between turning the phone off and turning it back on. And if that doesn't help, I'd start uninstalling downloaded apps one by one, starting with the most recent to see if any of them are causing the problem.

I figured it out. If Real Racing 3 is running in the background, it disables all but the main sound setting. If I "Force Stop" it, the other sound settings return to normal. I've been poking around and I don't see any way of disabling that "feature" of the application at the moment. If anybody has any ideas, that would be great.

This is my first Anrdoid device so I'm still fumbling around a bit. Is there a way to keep an application from running in the background when you quit it without having to use force stop? I imagine this should be considered a bug in the application but I'm not sure how it is supposed to behave.
