Volume up/down doesn't give me silent option...

I'm running AOSP 9.2.2. In the stock ROM, repeatedly pressing volume down would decrease the volume, then switch to silent mode, then switch to vibrate. Volume up would then switch from vibrate to silent mode, then increase the volume. In AOSP, I can't get both the silent and the vibrate options....it's one or the other depending on my vibrate settings. Ideas?

Is there a silent option if you press and hold the red call end button? That is what I use on the stock Android 2.1 ROM.

Jeez, I am out of the loop from being so slow to switch ROMs. It is a new year and time to rectify that.
