I believe your missing the point, the phone should have louder volume without me having to download an app, free or not.

how exactly do you get the volume+ for free from the devs site?

I attempted to configure Volume+ the way that was described in the post you linked, but when I try to open the "music effects" in the "settings, and sounds", I get an error message saying "unfortunately, Settings has stopped: [report] or [ok]". My phone is not rooted, could this be the cause? I read on the developers site that Volume+ would not work to it's full potential if running stock android.
I had really hope that Volume+ plus would solve my low volume audio problem, but so far it has not. How could they have screwed this up so badly?
I have just uninstalled the Volume+ app after finding a different solution that is working very well for me, certainly much better than Volume+. Check out this thread at XDA: My volume fix that WORKS - xda-developers .
