Root Vortex 2.2.1 pre installed unrootable?

This is my 1st android phone. I know its rather limited but we just couldn't beat the buy 1 get 1 from our provider. Although my wife's satisfied with hers im a bit more demanding on technology so I descided it was time to root and install a rom. I was planning on going with lightning C but unfortunately I cannot root this thing!

Ive tried z4root as well as SuperOneClick , no luck. Reluctantly I accepted the fact im going to have to downgrade. I started with the procedure from breakneck and then found the more explained procedure from Technohead. First thing I noticed is that both DIY's had broken download links for the LGNPST_Components_Ver_5_0_12_0 LGNPST_GenericModels_Ver_5_0_10_0.rar file...

Then I found this http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-m/254250-lgnpst-lab-1-2-better-than-my-fix.html ...

Please tell me im not stuck with bing an all this other useless crap .... If I wanted a windows phone I would have bought one

6 hours and a scary pc hangup during downgrading later I figured it out. Apparently my firewall wouldn't let me see the file from technohead. IF YOU USE KASPERSKY DISABLE IT 1ST!

You probably just aren't using SuperOneClick correctly. There is a series of unplugging the phone and turning usb debugging on and off before it will work. You have to read the instructions in the superoneclick post.
