Help vortex - entry level phone. whats that mean?

I've been reading reviews for the vortex and everyone keeps saying its an entry level phone. I can't find anyone who explains what that means tho.

also I've seen that the vortex doesn't have flash 10.1. Is there any way to get it by rooting it or something else? If not where can I go to find out what I won't be able to do without flash? are there certain apps I won't be able to use? Is it just flash on websites and non youtube videos that I won't be able to view?

Vortex could be considered entry level phone for the folks that are fond of rooting and always want the top of the line performers. But for average users who need just basic features of smartphone (emails, web, chatting, SNS), it's actually strong mid-range phone. There are even more basic android phones like Motorola Citrus, Cliq, Backflip, HTC Eric, Hero, Samsung moment, intercept, etc and Vortex is better than those I think. It's significant step up from any features phones and even old multi-media touch phones.

As to the flash 10.1, Vortex doesn't support it due to limitation in the old processor architecture (MSM7267 if I remember correctly) although android 2.2 is capable of it if it had better modern processor like Snapdragon. But flash video on web is the only thing you are missing in vortex, and you will have pretty much all other benefits of 2.2 froyo. You can use Skyfire browser to view flash videos on web if you wish.

Thanks for the help jinwons. some of that I understood but some of it I didn't. What do you mean by mid-range? does that mean like a 5 of a 1 to 10 scale?

Just to be clear, I think you're saying that the vortex is one of the best phones to get if you're going to root it, correct?
I have an old Droid right now, but I've only had it for a couple of months. I got it used from a friend and I'm thinking of upgrading because another friend is trying to get rid of his vortex.

What I meant is that rooting folks might consider vortex as entry level because it's not top performer like DX, D2, Dinc, SF, etc. Not sure if it's one of the best phones for rooting, but I don't see reasons why rooting would be any issue in vortex.

I'm not sure what you mean by 10 level scale. Is it the scale of satisfaction or performance? If it's performance, I would give about 6. If it's user satisfaction, probably 8~9.

I got my Vortex a little less than a month ago. Since that time I put my iPhone up on ebay because this little "entry-level" phone out performed that thing by miles.

Entry level in this case means specifically that even though it is running newer software, some of the hardware is not top of the line. This allows the average joe to get immersed in the Android experience without having to pay a premium price to enjoy it. The camera, for instance, is only a 3.2MP camera without a built-in flash. The processor is slower than most droids on the market, and the internal memory is not as large. This also keeps the cost of the phone way down (read: free)

Even with all that, the phone itself is very responsive, the scrolling and apps are smooth, it's quitenice for being entry-level. I've enjoyed having this phone the past month, and would probably only swap it out for a higher end phone if I could get it for what I paid for my Vortex (see paragraph above)

Hope that helped

My idiot dad just got a vortex for him and my mom after asking me about android based phones. I am so pissed that the sales person convinced him it was good because it was "outlook compatible"

I was like "They're all f*cking outlook compatible, that guy was an idiot"

And now I find out the thing won't even do flash, jesus christ was a hunk of junk.
