Root VZW and Wireless Tether for Root Users

Apologize if this has been posted already. Didn't find anything in search.

Just rooted my htc incredible. Thanks for the people at unrEVOked for making it so easy.

Before I start using this "wireless tether for root users" on a daily basis, should I be concerned about racking up massive charges on my Verizon bill?

I have unlimited data with the 30.00 per month plan.

THanks for any responses

It's against your TOS to use the unlimited data on a device other than the phone, and according to what I've seen here, it's technically possible to tell if someone is tethering if the provider wants to take a close look (say because of unusually high data use), so it might be a good idea not to go hog wild. That said, nobody has reported getting caught.

nope, no charges, I doubt vzw knows how you're using the data

I've used it on multiple occasions when no other internet access was available and no mysterious charges have shown up on my bill

If you go over 5GB you will be charged. Your unlimited data pan is, to say the least limited. If you use it in moderation you should be fine, streaming movies or TV shows via PC will rack up GBs REAL quick, but regular web surfing will not make a noticeable effect!

VZW has a app that you can download to monitor your usage, I would advise using it.

Just my 2 cents!

This is FUD. the 5 GB limit ONLY applies to the broadband package. The unlimited package IS unlimited.

That said if they can prove your tethering (my understanding is they can if they look close enough) they can get you for violating the T.O.S.

wayrad's info is the correct answer to your question.

Read your contract.........5GB is the cap on your "unlimited data".

I think you're the one that needs to read the Agreement. You may get throttled for the remainder of the bill cycle that you exceed 5 gig in, you may also get throttled for the next bill cycle, but you will not be charged because there is no overage rate for the 29.99 unlimited dataplan.

Helpful hint, in order to charge you for going over the mythical 5 gigabyte limit on the phone, they have to disclose the overage rate to you. It's part of Customer Clear Disclosure. They can't, because there isn't one. Ergo...

Notice that in the popup that there is no footnote of any kind hinting that there is more "hidden" info on these rates. What you see is what you get.

Any other questions?

Verizon has blocked wireless tether for root. Does anyone know away around it?

Mine works fine. I'm using wifi tether for root to post this (checking to make sure mine still worked). What is happening when you try to tether? What software are you running (I'm running the McSense ROM).

Are there any modifications needed to run Open Garden so that it won't notify Verizon? (If so I don't want to do that.) What are the risks?

Someone left a one-star review that said now they're getting charged by Verizon.

I only need it to catch-up my tablet's games when away from home and no wifi, not worth a huge surprise bill or a terminated contract.

Thanks.

Works as an access point for me. If that's what you're looking for.

I am looking on how to get it on my phone. I can not down load it.

I am looking to tether to an ipad (yes I said Ipad, I have a special needs son who can not talk so he uses it to communicate) to my Dinc. From the research I have done, it will only connect successfully with infrastructure mode not ad hoc. I see that wireless for root users can be done infrastructure mode. I tried barnacle and the ipad found it but would not connect to the internet. I am fairly new to all this. I also bought an camera attachment for the ipad which gives it usb capabilities. Thank you.
