I just got this phone and i wanna root it so i can uninstall the junk apps that verizon puts on the fone...
wats the easiest way to root the phone?

Thanx

First, really make sure you know what you're getting yourself into.

Then, decide if you want to do it the more involved way with Odin, or go hunt down z4root with Google.

welcome to the fascinate community :)

before considering root/bloatware removal/etc take the time to read through all of the information in the root sticky as well as ask questions about anything you may not fully understand.

rooting can be a generally pain free process, however if you are not careful and mindful of what you do....you can end up screwing up your phone.

my advice is to dive into some reading, get confident in what you are doing and then take the plunge...if you encounter any trouble, pop in and ask before trying to do random things that may make the problem worse

i had the Evo, it was fairly simple to root so i dnt have an issue with that... but there is no way of uninstalling bloatware witout rooting am i correct?
also is there a replacement verizon logo startup animation to something diff witout rooting?

Thanx

The root process is not that unlike unrevoked on the evo....install drivers....unzip the root files....plug in phone and hit start and let the program do its thing. :)

Clockwork recovery is different however as it requires that you install the odin program and push cwr to your phone....then you flash clockwork in rom manager....so a few more steps than on other phones

All the info is in friscos root stickie

Both of those definitely require root.

Just to throw out my experience as a noob. I had never rooted anything before, but about a week ago I started reading and researching an average of 3-4 hours/night. When I finally figured out what I was getting myself into, I took it a step at a time. The root itself was almost too easy; but after that it took some work to properly learn what ROM manager did and the ups and downs of different backup programs. I used Titanium Pro and felt comfortable using it as a noob. Once I had reached the point where I felt comfortable with my backup, I jumped into the process of flashing a new ROM and kernel. I received some fantastic help from members of this forum when I got hung up on getting into "recovery" mode of Clockwork Recovery, but ever since then I've been good. I would definitely recommend going for it if you don't mind taking on some risk in exchange for a phone that works the way these things should straight from Samsung. Good luck deciding what to do :)

Welcome aboard http://androidforums.com/members/iknight8.htmliknight8.

The rooting part is usually one of the simplest parts of the equation. Its what comes after that, that can make you jump for joy, or want to rip out your hair in anger. Take your time and read the stickies and posts. It's a lot to take in, but you will be better off in the long run.

If you read about what to do, how things can go wrong and how to fix them, you will be less likely to panic if you happen to bork something.:D

I'm not trying to scare you away from rooting, just letting you know that things aren't always 1.2.3..

Enjoy
