He says he has a method that will work on both the original stock software and the small OTA that is currently out.

I'll post a link when the method is released, which he says will be soon.

Never could get rumrunner to work for me. Just got the kit kat OTA upgrade, hope I can root this darn phone some day. Ads are so annoying!!

Firewater is out,and working for 4.4 vzw phones. You can root right now if you want to! : http://firewater-soff.com/

Firewater is for s-off and requires root. The temproot method used on the firewater site doesn't work on 4.4.2. I tried it and it fails.

Just did this ... weaksauce followed by firewater ... on my new HTC One that had recieved the update. Worked, but you need to remember to wait 30-45 seconds after the phone reboots before the command "su" works, as weaksauce doesn't kick in immediately after boot.

Other than that, I'm now S-OFF, TWRP installed, and trying to decide on a rom
