Waiting on my Nexus... [GSM]

Thanks, but I don't think I can stand to read through 48 pages of posts to find out the best proceedure for setting up, and activating my phone. I am hoping someone reads this, who can steer me in the right direction.

that post was just to show you how to get the most out of the $30 plan not to get it activated.sorry about the confusion

No problem, thanks for your responses. I know I need to activate it online, but I am not sure about the best steps to do this. The nexus quick start guide says to to put in the battery and sim card, then power on. But since my sim card hasn't been activated yet, I'm not sure if this could cause any problems, or holdups. I also am not sure if I can activate the sim card online, BEFORE I put it in, and power on the phone. Or maybe I should just put the baterry in, and go through the android set up now, then put the sim card in and activate, later.

Most awesome day ever!!! My GNex just randomly got delivered... no shipping notification... Also my Nexus 7 showed up today... I'm flooded with android awesomeness lol

It doesn't matter how you do it... when it boots up it will just tell you that if you don't have a Sim card inserted that you can insert it later...

As others have stated, it won't matter how you do it. You will want to attempt to do it online but, as a warning, most of us (for various reasons) weren't able to complete it online and it will direct you to call.

Now, when you call, be sure you let them know that you want the $30 100 min/unlimited online-only (or Walmart) plan. Let then know you tried to do it online and what happened. The reason you need to specify is that there is another $30 plan they will put you on that gives no data but 1500 minutes or texts. If they give you any problem about getting you on the Walmart plan, ask for a supervisor or call back and get another tech.

what he said.i was bored so i was reading up on it.if i was you i would just go to the tmobile site and follow their steps and when you are done then boot up the phone.

edit. and for the record i had a evo v 4g for a week and for those that dont know that phone had major activations problems.so because of that i was a little afraid to give advice until i did some research to see if it mattered how you did it on tmobile.

FWIW the online Tmo rep I chatted with earlier said I could just activate my SIM later. I don't have one yet so just switched on my brand new GN phone and skipped that part. It went right to looking for my home wifi.

I did have an issue with my wifi. I kept getting booted off with the endles loop of "obtaining IP address". Searching for an answer on Google just led me down rabbit holes of possible WEP issues, router issues, antennae issues and a soft reset. Finally I just forgot my connection and entered the credentials again. Except that time I checked the box to see my password/key as I was typing it. I was transcribing it wrong by one digit. Fix that and I was on my wifi in moments.

I've been loading apps ever since from the Play store. Thank goodness I had Flash in my library of owned apps. You get no Flash video without it. Very annoying on TWiT TV. You'd think a tech network would worry about streaming their live video in HTML5. Especially a group filled with Apple fans.

So far the one thing I miss most from my Galaxy S2 is Swype. I need to install that next. I don't like this hunt and peck method of typing. Makes me feel like an 80 yr old.:stupido:

you got BOTH on the same day. I bet you grinning from ear to ear!

I'm not sure I'd like that. I'd have too much of a dilemma figuring out which to play with. It seems more fun to get them a day apart. Kind of like Christmas on back to back days! ;)

Activate the account first.
But if you set the phone up first or second never mattered to me.

The "proper" way per carriers is to set up the account first then insert sim and set up the phone.

Grats on the nexus and enjoy your stupidly cheap phone and plan :D
You will enjoy it

I ordered it on the 12th and got my ship notice about an hour ago. Obviously it can't actually ship until Monday. Unless UPS ships (not delivers) on Saturdays, which is possible, I guess.

my tracking says this: UPS could not locate the shipment details for your request. Please verify your information and try again later.

probably because it's too soon or the weekend or something. I am so impatient.

As you mentioned in your previous post, it won't actually "ship" until Monday. So, for now it is likely sitting in the shipping box on the loading dock at Google, so the UPS tracking likely won't be live until sometime Monday.

I went through something similar as I ordered Jul 3. I ordered just a couple of hours before the injunction went into effect, so I worried if I'd get my phone at all. Luckily, Google didn't make me suffer and I got my shipping notice at about 1:30am on the 4th. With the 4th being a holiday, my UPS tracking didn't go live until sometime Thursday (the 5th) but, when it did it game me a delivery date of Friday.

Because of my experience, my guess is you will have your phone Tuesday.

My tracking works now. It will be arriving tomorrow. If I don't get my sim card for a few days can I still play on the phone with wifi?

My phone arrived today and is charging now. For some reason I thought it would ship with jellybean but it still has the 4.0.4 (ICS?) on it. I guess I should update before I put any apps on it?
