'Wake Up' on Notification

Is there an app or setting to force the phone to "wake up" when a new notification comes in (gmail, sms, calendar, etc...). I find it easy to miss notifications when the phone is locked and it would be nice for the screen to turn on when a new notification is received.

I use SMSPopUp. Only works for messages, but it wakes the screen up and is basically like a Quick Reply for messages.

Yea wish it had an LED like the blackberry.
