Wake up screen on SMS/E-mail?

Hi folks, first post today

And it's a question. Is there a way to make the Desire wake up (ie light up the screen) when I receive an SMS or e-mail when in silent mode?

I like to have the phone sitting beside my computer at work so I prefer it in silent mode, but all I get is the flashing LED which I'm never going to notice!
