Help Wake up screen without power button?

I didn't see it mentioned, you can hit the MENU button twice to activate the phone as well.

This doesn't work for me......

Make sure to click on lock. this will turn off the lock screen and enble the volume button to unlock the phone.

bobr, veereihen was commenting on ronbien's suggestion that pressing menu twice wakes the phone. this does not work for the evo.

in any case, i don't understand your response. can you elaborate?

Can any one else confirm no lock doesn't kill the battery? I tried myLock, and it completely prevented sleep mode (100% awake time), which really sucked the battery.

so is there some benefit to using another button to wake the phone up from sleep or is just for ppl that find it a pain to reach for the power button?

Besides just being way cooler, biggest benefit to me is it saves the greasy finger prints. The swipe to unlock is the worst offender. Using the volume button prevents that.

Just checked my battery this morning from yesterday. i have 20 hours up time, and 3 hours awake time, while using no lock the whole time.

I d/l an app called "no lock". Let's you use the volume button to wake up the phone. never use the power button except to turn off the phone now.

ok, been using this app for the last couple of days and while it is great when working it looks like it is not free of bugs. sometime it just stops working I guess and the screen locks up.
I even had to once restart my EVO this morning to make it work

anyone have similar reliability problems? I'm trying to isolate what causes this

For people tha say the no lock app doesn't work

Just got my Incredible yesterday. I have small hands and found it awkward to have to press the power button every time I wanted to use the phone, which has been often as I explore the new toy. Discovered this thread and downloaded No Lock. Much to my delight, I found that, not only can you use the volume buttons to power up the phone, but the trackball button also does the same thing:)

Don't know about power issues, but it's easy enough to download and try out.

Haven't figured out how to download the barcode, but just google "no lock android".

Earlier comment said mylock does not let the phone sleep. Can anyone confirm this and also can anyone comment on whether the same is true for screen suite?

To answer my own question, I experimented with mylock and found that when you have it configured so that the volume button wakes up the phone, the phone will not go to sleep even when the screen is off. I checked this by turning on mylock "advanced mode" and then checking uptime vs awake time to verify that the phone does not really sleep when it appears to (screen off). When mylock is running in it's normal mode (not advanced), the phone does sleep properly. However, in this mode, mylock causes the lock screen to be bypassed and only the power button wakes the phone up.

I also checked nolock and it does let the phone sleep properly. It also allows the phone to be woken up with the volume key. But keep in mind that the lock screen will be bypassed.

I have yet to find a program that allows the user to use a volume key to wake the phone while maintaining the lock screen and allowing the phone to sleep properly.

So are you saying that when the lock is disabled the phone doesnt sleep using mylock? Or is this only in the advanced mode.

The power button doesnt bother me that much but I dont want to have teh volume work at the expense of the battery.

with mylock, the phone sleeps fine in normal mode but does not sleep in advanced mode. you will be sacrificing battery if you use advanced mode.

i should note that all of my testing was done by pressing the power button to put the phone to sleep. i did not check to see if there was any difference when the phone puts itself to sleep.
