Help Wake without pressing power button?

with a case on.. with a little lip on the edge to protect the screen.
the home button is so close to the bottom edge.
I don't feel that button will be pressed in my pocket.. Nothing else is in there.

and if there was a.. 2 press home button.. to wake.
I would want it to also by pass the .. swipe to unlock.. and go directly to homescreen.
as long as security is not on.

Something tells me though that before wear and tear becomes an issue, you'll be selling / upgrading your N3 :)

Yes, that would definitely be a cool option, Dan...granted, for me it wouldn't make a difference, since work requires me to have a PIN, but a double press would be better (especially for people that don't use a case or screen protector).

What I have found though, after putting on a tempered glass protector, is that the button is recessed enough that I haven't had as many problems with a home button wake. Nonetheless, it's part of what I have loved about Android, ever since I joined the bandwagon (from windows mobile) a few years back...the customizability has just been awesome and quite addicting. I wouldn't be surprised to see a developer come out with an app that somehow controls that home button functionality.

I use ADW Launcher.. it has a home button assignment.
but it is only for when the phone is on..

maybe they can add function for sleeping phones.

Same with NOVA...just waiting for someone to develop non-rooted solutions for use of the home button, when on standby.

Are you able to get it to work with Note 3??
It says for only the following phones..

Touchless control is only supported on:
- Droid Ultra
- Droid Mini
- Droid Maxx
- Moto X
Touchless Control is available only for U.S. English, U.S. Spanish, Canadian French and Brazilian Portuguese.

This is actually the app, for other phones:

Not the same apps though. The first app is Motorola's app. The one above is a 3rd party developer. I tried it. It kinda works, but I didn't really spend much time with it and already uninstalled. You can customize the opening phrase. I tried "Ok Kit" (ala Knight Rider), but couldn't really spend much time seeing how accurate it is without being able to speak in normal tone of voice (while in the office).

A little late for this thread but the Samsung flip case (the one with the window on the front) wakes the phone when you open it and turns the screen off when you close it. Bloody expensive though!

Not at all, it's supposed to do that. You can even arrange it so Action Memo automatically opens regardless of your lock screen settings. Pretty useful if you're into taking hand written notes.

My writing has always been appalling. [OK I use it for hand written shopping lists.] But I pretty much do everything on the phone using the S-pen. A major reason I bought the phone. I'm very anti mucky screen.

And by-the-by I discovered last night that Matel's Scrabble app refuses to respond to the pen at all. Very odd indeed. So that got binned.

The S-View cover solves the original query very well.
(& it works well as a protective cover too)

My preference; use app 'No Lock' and the phone & screen are on when cover is flipped open

thumbs up to GiggityGiggity & his comment :smokingsomb:

Shot in the dark here, because I am pretty sure the answer is "No," but has anybody found a way to wake the device without pressing the power button or saying "Hi Galaxy?"

For example, the Moto X and new Droids light up the screen with a lock logo when you pick them up, and then you can swipe to unlock without pressing any actual buttons. It isn't a really big deal, but I figure it would save wear and tear on the physical buttons if you didn't have to use them as much. I also dislike having to use the physical home button to reach the task switcher or home screen, compared to a capacitive button or softkey, again because of wear-and-tear concerns.

The power button and volume down button on my Galaxy Nexus started to be a little finnicky after I had it for a while, so I guess I am just concerned the build quality won't hold up over 2 or more years of use.

Is there any 3rd-party app that can use the accelerometer to add the ability to wake without using the power button?

There is no application for touch to wake but there is a kernel which has this feature but obviously you would need root to install it, so I think it would be better to just press the power button to wake for now.

If anyone is rooted and wants to install the kernel with touch to wake feature fhe kernel is called ColonelX-v1.2.5-n900t

I accidentally found an easy way to do this, you just need an application call swipe home button, once installed you're good to go.

Make sure that Quick Glance is on too.

So to wake up without the home or power button you just need to do a quick glance, once the screen is on, you can swipe to go to home. lol

Problem solved.

Gravity screen and swipe home make me love this phone even more.I have used them for a while and it really makes things easy.
