Help wallpaper crop help?

I have launcher pro, so the wallpaper does not move when moving screen to screen, but I have a picture that is perfect when I see it in the gallery, and exactly how i want it on my wallpaper, but when i set it to the wallpaper, it makes me crop it, and then i only get half the picture, zoomed in. so is there a way to bypass the cropping and setting it to my wallpaper the way it looks in my gallery? the picture that is perfect in my gallery has a resolution of 480x800, thanks.

Even though you have the wallpaper set to not move, it still requires the same size picture as if it could move.

So find out the size of your entire homescreen (three times the width of the screen in my phone's case) and make sure your picture is that size. You can just add big black bars to each side of the image you have, since you won't be seeing those parts of the picture.

The wallpaper tool will always want to fit the images to the full 960x800 resolution of the Ally wallpaper canvas. Yes the phone screen, one individual home screen at a time, is only 480x800, but the wallpaper resolution is actually 960x800.

So in the event that you would like an image that only fills up your one home screen and you disable scrolling, you'll still want the image to be 960x800, but the main focus of what you want to be looking at should be in the middle 480x800 of the image.

So you have a picture which is already 480x800. You'll want to go into a photo program like photoshop, create an image which is 960x800, and then paste your smaller image dead in the center. Save it, transfer it to your phone, and then set the wallpaper.

 Are you serious? I have to prep images for use as wallpaper?!

I just got an Optimus from Virgin Mobile and was flummoxed by this behavior. NOW you're telling me that their is an "expected size"?

Wow... I just got a smidgen of iPhone envy.

Ok so I found an app called "Crop Wallpaper" which more-or-less fixes this issue, but still! WTF?!?

Android always gives you the option to crop your images as you set them too, just like the app you found.

The problem is that if you find an image you like on the internet, chances are it's not the same aspect ratio as your screen. That means when you open it with your crop wallpaper app, you'll have to cut off some of the edges or stretch the image in some way. If you start off with an image with the same dimensions as your homescreen, no cropping or stretching is necessary.

The same is true for any device, be it android, iPhone, PC, mac etc.

Were you by chance using a very small/medium-ish image? When you do this on windows it auto-centers the image, but leaves it in a box against your background color. When you do this on an Android phone it auto-zooms the image making it stretched big enough until it fits the entire screen (you loose a lot of quality this way), but if you were using another OS it wouldnt be any better (you cant make something from nothing with an image).

Just download a wallpaper app in the marketplace.

Also be aware, the Android OS uses different "spaces"/"windows" and each one takes up an additional amount of the full image. (When you swipe on you homescreen notice how it moves a tad and shows a little bit more of the image).
