Root Want to root my replacement...

So I just got a replacement Thunderbolt from Verizon, and I want to root it (my last phone was rooted, but had to be unrooted to get this replacement). The last time I rooted was a back in October (I think), and I'm not sure how much has changed. Can I still root using revolutionary? Currently my phone is S-ON, HBOOT-1.05.0000, RADIO-1.48.00.0930w_3, Android 2.3.4. If I can still root using Revolutionary, I'll do that; I just want to be sure I can before I try :D. Thanks!

no biggie,tho,you just need to run a .exe file on your PC,or flash a PG05IMG in hboot,to downgrade your phone to 2.11.605.5. the s-on hboot should allow this.

Cool, I just flashed a PG05IMG on my old phone so I could return it for this replacement, so I'll probably just do that :) Thanks!!

What exactly is the .exe, and what does it do?

the .exe does the same thing as a PG05IMG,it just does it as a utility on your PC. download it,run as administrator if possible,and plug in your phone when it tells you :)

i dont believe your phone will not les you downgrade to 2.11.605.3,only to .5. you can try it if you wish,but id expect to see the "main version higher" error
 
I have a similar issue. I got my TB this weekend after some sh:eek:tsicle stole my Dinc2. I have been researching this all day and have adb set up on my linux netbook and have pushed psneuter to it but without the rest of the exploits I can't finish. I have found links for the files on a dozen forum pages but they are all down or 404. :confused:

I would prefer to do this manually, but without the magic of multiupload, I am facepalms... my TB is fully updated as of two days ago. what are the odds this will work for me?

u think it will run through wine, or should I borrow a windows machine for this? I really just need a working mirror for the exploits. PLEASE help.
I have never rooted a thunderbolt. just a DInc2, a Charge, and a Desire.
none of those were this complicated.
 
psneuter and wpthis do not work on ANY gingerbread build,anyway,so unfortunately its not of much relevance. :(

since fre3vo does seem to work,you should be able to use that to change the misc image and roll back to preshipping firmware and finish out manually. IMO if you do it this way,youll want to replace the old eng 1.04.2000 s-off hboot with shadowmites permanent one.

unless you just enjoy adb,its honestly easier to just use revoluitionary after running fre3vo or dowgrading to .5. it leaves you with the permanent hboot,doesnt wipe your data,and is fast and easy.

that said,if you really want i could prolly upload the original exploits .zip somewhere for you if you want to try and combine old guide with fre3vo to do it old skool :D
 
Thank you sooo much! I got the s-off and was able to run revolutionary, but I am having the same problem getting the new hboot file without multiupload

Sorry for the ling delay responding back to this post, I've been busy with work and taxes :(

FileFactory says I need to be a premium subscriber to download the exe. Is the an alternate mirror?

Check the first post of the root/unroot thread. There is a way now to do it without a downgrade . :)

If you still want the exe I can upload later
 
I re-rooted on Saturday using that method. I didn't have any problems at all, and revolutionary ran much faster then when I had previously rooted. Thanks again for all the help!
