Root Warning! This thread may cause headaches

Hey everyone, I'm fairly new to this whole thing, so please be kind:p

I've recently rooted my desire, made the first mistake of having it in my mind to be easy as. After getting over this initial thought I've been trying to plough on and figure it all out.

I was looking through the forums trying to find a well recommended rom to use for my first. I decided on Gingervillain, but to install it I had to install what I think to be the basics (the android dev kits, etc) and so after a few hours, I think now it's time to get some more assistance.

So what I have now is:

HTC Desire (rooted)
2.2 Froyo? ROM
Phone has been wiped (I don't think I used titanium backup correctly)
I can't seem to install this clockwork version 3 or s-off (which I think I need?)

But more importantly I cant seem to understand how fastboot works, my device can never be found in that area, only in recovery when I mount it via my device.

Apologies in advance for the headaches this may cause, and thankyou in advance for any assistance provided :)

Once you're rooted you just flash a Rom. No need for s off. Read the rooting faq in my Sig. You sound well confused.

You better believe I'm confused, receiving all sorts of mixed messages from different sources.

To flash (from what I gathered from your sig link) all I need do is put the zip into my sd, wipe, install and it should work.

Thanks for the help :)

One more problem if I may.

I've downloaded this oxygen rom from about 3 different sources about 2-3 times each, tried to 'flash'.

Every time it aborts. Is this something I'm doing wrong? Bad download from all places? or is my phone just dodgy?

It could well be just a bad dowload, shipped roms for one is notorious for it. Have you tried this one?

http://xda.richardtrip.org/ginger/GingerVillain0.9.zip It has an md5 next to it, checking an md5 makes sure your copy is as good as the original on the server. See my sigi for the check tool.
