Root Warranty replacement phone and root?

So I got Virgin Mobile to send me a replacement Evo due to touchscreen issues I've been having. They are sending me the phone with a prepaid envelope to return mine. What happens if I send back my rooted phone with a custom rom? I know it's supposed to void the warranty but one, I already have the replacement and two, it's not an issue that could have resulted from anything root. Will they try to charge me for the replacement or something similar?

From what I've gathered every time this is asked, it seems like it doesn't matter because Virgin will just wipe and flash your phone when they get it, but you can run the ruu and return to stock just in case.

Moved to all things root section. :)

And as mentioned, haven't heard of one person having problems turning in a rooted phone.

I've returned fully bricked phones before caused from bad flashes and so far have had zero issues whatsoever. One thing I can say about VM...they're good with returns
