Root Warranty replacement software version

The power button on my Inc is about to give up the ghost. I'm currently rooted, running Cyanogenmod 7.10 and loving it.

I'm trying to decide whether i want to do a warranty/insurance replacement to fix my power button. My concern is that Verizon or Assurion will send me a phone with the latest 2.3.4 Gingerbread OTA update, which is not rootable, as far as I can tell.

Unrootable is a deal-breaker for me, so I'm trying to get a sense for what software version people are getting on their warranty replacement Incs. I guess the alternative is to have the phone repaired or buy one on eBay.

Anyone care to chime in?

Thanks.

Its not pretty but it works at least for some...

that said, I would think it a crap shoot what comes on the warranty phone.

I would buy a power button and replace it.myself.

Since replacement or fix has a price or time.without phone

I thought of doing that (and I'm handy with a soldering iron), but I'm concerned about breaking the warranty seal. If I can't fix the switch myself, I'm stuck.

I also hear varying tales about whether Verizon/Assurion cares about the warranty sticker... who knows?

Does anyone have a link to a replacement power switch? I've seen places that sell the plastic outer piece, but I'm pretty sure my problem is in the actual electrical switch.

Thanks!

PS- Why was this discussion moved to the Root sub-forum? It's about fixing or replacing a broken phone, not about rooting...

Because you are rooted currently, and also asked about 2.3.4 being rootable.

In your original post you had already pretty much made up your mind that you were returning the phone and were not going to attempt to fix it. So it appeared to me your were more concerned about retaining root than actually fixing the power button issue.

Just a followup, I tried cleaning the power button by spraying some contact cleaner in from the outside. No joy, so I decided to crack open the phone. I cleaned out the switch with contact cleaner and compressed air, and now it works like new!

Here's a picture of the switch if anyone is interested...
