Help Was Triumph actually rebranded?

I remember reading when the Triumph was first announced that a lot of people were saying it was a rebranded Huawei device. Has anyone managed to actually confirm that that's true? Obviously the code is similar since our ROMs and kernels are similar. Just wondering if maybe that could explain some of the QC issues we've had. I think i remember reading Huawei kinda has issues in that area.

I've asked Motorola about it, but the most I got out of them is that they don't know other phones... I asked them if the MT was a rebranded ideos x6 and didn't really get a straight answer... I may call their level 2 tech support and ask them about it... I really want to know if it is just Motorola made it really quickly for vm or just rebranded it...

Yeah, kinda makes you wonder. Motorola doesn't have this kind of problems with their other phones, do they? I've loved my Triumph, but Moto/VM really dropped the ball on this big time. The average end user doesn't know the first thing about rooting, etc., so a lot of people try it and think it's crappy, understandably so. Especially not having Motoblur, this could have been hands down the best phone on any prepaid carrier.

I want motoblur! Lol I actually do want to try it... Anyways I'm gonna call the level 2 tech support tomorrow and see if I can find out anymore about the MT... Hopefully I can find out something...

The bigger question is do the other phones suffer the same issues ours do

Actually I do not know... Time to go to the Ideos Forum! :D. And wouldn't that be weird if the Huawei Ideos X6 was built better than the MT...

Edit: also another thing I've noticed against the other variants is we have a different snapdragon cpu...

Edit2: also the MT is mm smaller than the Ideos x6... there's just minor things that kinda make me think otherwise, that this isn't re-branded... but I just don't know...

I encourage you to go over to the Motorola Owner's Forum on the Motorola web-site and have a look at the Bionic, the Razr, the Electrify, the Photon 4G, the MT.

There are some common themes: hardware variance, mass assembly at several locations, quality control issues.

On the exterior the Huwei you guys are referring to is a dead ringer for the MT. Huawei Ascend X/Ideos X6/U9000, and the Cherry Mobile Magnum HD.... Likely, some of the electronics (radios) are different, but the underlying CPU and graphics are probably the same.

Actually the triumphs internals are a bit different than the ideos x6 and variants, for example, we have no fm radio, we have a Qualcomm MSM8655 Snapdragon cpu compared to the Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon cpu in the Ideos x6, we have the same gpu though. And the form factor isn't quite the same...

is our hardware better? or is the x6 and the others better? and that suck we dont have an fm radio! lol we have a smartphone, without one of the simplest things :D

its not difficult to take the design plans for the X6 (circuit board layouts and CAD designs for the body and buttons and various pieces) and rework them to look different.

for all we know, the only reason our Triumph has the soft touch plastic body it has is becuase its easier to manufacturer (injection molding versus another method used on the X6?) who knows.

just saying. of COURSE its a rebranded device, that doesnt mean it has to look exactly the same or have the exact same components inside.

Like mentioned, the other ones are all GSM IIRC. Someone either here or on xda flashed the magnum gingerbread update I believe and the phone seemed mostly usable except for the radio of course.

Everything, besides data... Calls and sms worked...

everyone should spam @motorola (motorola mobility) and @VMUCare about either releasing workable source code to build ICS on the Triumph, or just release any kind of ICS rom.

make enough noise and SOMETHING will happen.

for the heck of it, spam huawei too to improve their manufacturing processes.

make a stink damnit!

Hmmm... Lets make a riot, a riot! :D

But will they really do anything... I mean the OV hasn't even got GB officially...
