WatchESPN App

I'm fairly new around here, so I hope this is the right place to ask this. I really enjoy the WatchESPN App on my HTC Evo, and on my laptop when I'm not around a TV. It would be really great for our tailgate parties if we could watch College GameDay (none of us has a dish to bring). Unfortunately, our tailgate spot on campus has a poor Wifi signal. Tethering my EVO's internet connection to my laptop can work at times, but the connection to the laptop is very flaky at best. What I would like to do is find a way to "export" the WatchESPN video from the EVO to an HDTV. Merely connecting a micro-HDMI cable from the phone to the TV doesn't do anything, and only seems to work with Youtube videos and such. Does anyone know of a way to do this?

I remember something similar to this when I had my Droid X. I had to download an additional app (I think it needed root) that allowed me to display anything via an HDMI cord. I don't know why OEMs keep thinking all we want is YouTube and photos on TV from our phones.
