Help Water Damage, Best Thing To Do?

Hey guys, my sister has just recently dropped her phone into some water, the whole thing was submerged, but it was pulled out within the first 2 secs of going in, and then put strait into rice, the battery was also pulled out strait away.

I have looked into this subject a little before, and I know that there is many ways to try and fix this problem, one is what we are currently doing which is putting it in rice and leaving it for a week also, but I also saw another one that said to put it into 99.9% alcohol and leave it in there for a few hours, then put it into the rice?

What is best do to? Could you please also add how long to leave it in the rice if you think rice is better or how to do it if using alcohol is better?

Thanks a lot.

Never heard about the alcohol trick, but I did here about leaving it in a bowl of rice for hours or a week should help soak up all the moisture.

If it was on at the time it its more than likely dead in my experience. I killed a Nokia N8 by dropping it in a sink, I caught it as it hit the water. Pulled the battery (not easy on an N8) and covered it in rice a week. It is now a shiny Nokia paperweight. As mentioned donot use a direct heat source on it, or as I've heard from some idiots microwave it (you'll kill the phone, or the microwave or yourself and more than likely all three). Good luck, I've never personally known of a phone being revived after water and even repair centers refer to them as BER (Beyond Economic Repair).

Do NOT use a hair dryer on a cell phone in an attempt to dry it out as this can damage it further. See the warning in step #7 in this article entitled...

"How to Save a Wet Cell Phone"

I can vouch for this, don't use the dryer,it needs to dry on its own with no heat.
Never heard of the alcohol method but definitely try the rice, but time is the factor, more time the better, try another phone for a week.
