Water Damage! Help and advice please!

Lurker
I've just got my phone wet (dropped it into a cup of tea :( )

It was submerged for less than 10 seconds.

The phone was on and initially displayed an exclamation mark in the left hand corner and said something about the SD card being unexpectedly removed.

I removed the battery, SD and SIM quickly. Dried it with kitchen towel as best I could.

I replaced the battery and turned it on (I now know this is stupid and could have caused a short circuit). The phone does the usual turn on vibrate but the screen remains blank.

The lights on the keyboard come on but that's it.

It's now stood end up on some kitchen towel.

Please help! Do I just leave it overnight to see if that works? Anything I can do to improve the chances of it being ok.

Thank you all in advance

Leave it in a container full of rice (which will absorb any moisture within the container) for a few days. Dismantle is as well as you can (separate out the battery + cards, keep any removable panels off, etc).

Give it plenty of time to dry out; don't even turn it on out of curiosity.

Oh and apparently using a hair-dryer is a bad idea due to the static charge it can generate, so don't try that.

Oh and I didn't say, but you want the container to be airtight so that the rice can dry the air out more effectively.

leave it there for a week or so. you shouldnt have attempted to switch it on as the circuits might still be wet when you did that. might have caused it to short circuit already
