Help water damage?

Lurker
Heres the story
last night i was eating some pickles and in an attempt to get a pickle out of the pickle jar pickle juice was spilled onto my pocket containing my evo. However it wasnt just onto the pocket but more so onto the small part of the phone sticking out of the pocket which happened to be the bottom of the phone where the charging port is at. The phone continued to work for for the rest of the night but ended up dying while i was asleep. now when i plug it into a charger it is completely non responsive, no lights, not power on, no anything.
The battery does not indicate that it was been water damaged but it does smell like pickles
what do i do? can i take it back and get a new one?

tl;dr: spilled pickle juice on evo, worked fine at first, now it wont turn on

You will be overnighted a replacement phone...and sometimes repair centers have loaner phones you can borrow for a few days.

When I bought the EVO, I moved from AT&T which is GSM. So my old phone can't function as a backup phone...

I ordered a cheap Blackberry off eBay ($15 shipped) within a week of buying the EVO so that one day if I ever had to send it in, I'd have a backup phone to use for a few days.

I'd suggest having a backup phone around for anyone.

EDITED to add:

The same Blackberry I bought for $15 shipped was available at Amazon for $75 NEW in the box. It's an old one that does not have a trackball, or even a 4-way button. It has the wheel on the side. No bluetooth or WiFi either...but then again, it was only $15 shipped with some signs of use, but no scratches on the screen luckily.

i bought mine from best by and have insurance through them
they charge you for loaner phones and everytime my old phone had to be sent in they had it for at least 2 weeks
but idk what else to do so im heading there
wish me luck

Are you paying for insurance to Sprint? $7/month? If so then you should be able to go to any Sprint repair center and they will take care of you.

That's great to hear. In the future you should probably avoid brining your electronics :p.

If that sort of thing ever happens again, you might be able to salvage it by immediately removing the battery and soaking the whole thing alcohol, then letting it dry. It's a long shot with something like that, but it's better than just leaving it on.
