Help Water damage?

Hello all,

My SGS2 recently stopped recognising the USB/charger and hence won't charge. The phone itself works fine. I figured it would just be a problem with the connector and easy to fix, but the warranty claim has just been declined due to water damage (it took them a month to figure this out).

They included this photo:

There is obvious corrosion there, but the phone has never been wet that I'm aware of. Could it be caused by anything else? It's my understanding there are moisture indicators inside the phone that turn pink. They did not include any photos of these.

They are wanting to replace the whole board for at least $250 AUD. Could it still just be a connector problem or is the board really fried?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

water damage can occur in lots of ways. Condensation if youre using it in the bathroom for example, putting it down on a bar table where someone previously has spilt a pint, having it in a bag with a bottle of water that spills as youre walking around etc etc.

Ive worked in mobile phone shops for 7 years and youd be surprised the number of times people say its never been near liquid and then asked if they have ever used it in the rain they say yes.

Im not saying thats whats happened to you, just saying it can happen in lots of ways and often its without realising it. I dont know about australia but here usually any mobile phone or household insurance covers water damage on a phone. Some bank accounts cover it too.

Thanks for the reply skimminstones.

I ended up taking it to a local independent repairer, and got it fixed for $50 while I waited. So much for "Beyond Economical Repair"!

The guy said there was no evidence of extensive water damage, just that obvious corroded area that the photo shows. I guess it must have been wet somehow but I really don't know how. I'll be super careful from now on that's for sure.
