Root Way to change volume increments

Is there a way to change the percentage that the volume goes up by for media? While I am at work the lowest setting is too soft and the next one up is too loud and I cant hear whats going on around me. I know its most likely my headphones but if there is a way to do this that would help.

Thanks.

I hear ya man. I'm having the same problem, except that my lowest setting isn't low enough for me to listen to music while still being able to hear coworkers and other things. Hope someone has an answer, otherwise I'm gonna have to learn that Android SDK and make some poor looking app to solve what should be an otherwise simple-to-fix issue...

You people have super human hearing? ;)

Having things stuck in your ears would be a constraint there is little chance getting around unless you get phones that are not in-ear ;)

Joking aside,

The problem with the Inc is the gain does not scale properly in relation to volume increases. Rather than a linear correlation, it looks more like a raised hockey stick (long part on ground) and the max volume is as weak as the low end is harsh.

Still the Inc is MUCH better than the Droid, Droid 2 and X. OMAP chips without in-line amp circuits sound bad. Archos players and Moto phones all blow chuncks for sound quality and volume as a result. N900 is the only OMAP device with great sound- due to having a built-in line amp for 3.5mm output.

Thanks for providing some insight into the problem, rushmore. I haven't personally experienced the issue with the max volume, but I've seen plenty of people complaining in other posts. What I want to figure out is if there is either an app (music equalizer, global volume, or music player app) out there that can adjust the volume in small increments, or if any devs know how to play with the system volume from a code aspect.

So devs, got any ideas? How about you, android citizens?? :)
