Root Way to check what's using Dalvik?

Just wondering if there is an app/tool so i can see what's using up space in Dalvik? As far as i can work out dalvik seems to be larger than 'typical' size - I reckon about 100MB as a pure guess. And assuming still some space being used by apps after setting up an SD-Ext again to free up space but not moving dalvik. Quick sys info shows internal storage is 331 with 187 free (with sd-ext).

Could it be Touchdown email client and large attachements coming in?

I use Root Explorer.

In my sd-ext directory (I'm using A2SD+ with Dalvik script) there is a directory called dalvik-cache which is full of files. See which ones are the biggest.

Dalvik is not app cache. Imagine the app apk as an archive. Imagine dalvik as where android actually runs the app from, then you'll have an idea

If you think there might be orphaned files in there, just wipe the dalvik cache from recovery - it will be rebuilt when you reboot, so no harm in doing this.

Ti backup also has a dalvik cache cleaner feature (at least the pro version has).

grenw -yep, got root explorer but think that you only get dalvik-cache folder if you use a move to sd-ext script.

SU - I kind of get what you mean. Similar to Win pre-fetch  or is that bollocks

Hadron - Just did a wipe cache/wipe dalvik and re-flash ROM after creating sd-ext partition again - no idea if i needed to right enough. Dalvik size pretty well stays same anyway

No biggie, I can live with having small sd-ext set up.

Loosely similar, yes. Dalvik cache is the cache of the java virtual machine that is used to run apps. For optimiation purposes, the dalvik cache entries are called by JVM to run the application.
