Help way to spell check

InGearX

Android Enthusiast
you know how in Chrome or Firefox misspelled words are underlined.. and right clicking it - correction options are given...

(I hope one day - it will be a native built in way like in BlackBerry - system wide ..)

how can this be done on Android?

my Galaxy s3 and Note 3 do not do that :/ but I had it on my Motorola Droid 3 default keyboard - misspelled words were underlined with red and clicking on it provided correction suggestions ..

there's got to be some ways .. some options .. some keyboards .. some applications ..

please advise ..

thank you ..

Many phones already do that or some keyboards just correct the word for you which is what I prefer.

That's one thing I like about Internet Explorer 11. They don't do the underlined words they just correct the word for you. Just like this keyboards corrected just about every word I typed.

CyanogenMod does it on my Oppo, underlines misspelled words in any app, and tapping on the underlined word does bring up a list of suggestions or can add the word to the user dictionary. So it must be a core feature of Android, but if individual manufacturers choose to implement it or not, e.g. Samsung.

I've also seen some Chinese phones underlining every word as misspelled, as they do apparently have the spell checking feature but lack the English dictionaries to go with it.

This is terrible ..

People spend $600+ on Note 3

And it doesn't have a core feature that a 5 year old phone does .. Underline mispelled words in red..

My 10 year old blackberry did that in 2004

My 20 year old PC with Word did that in 1994

Its 2014 and Note 3 can not do this!?

Never again Samsung!

maybe there is some registry like hack / flag to enable this?!

some say:

The reason Note 3 doesn't have this function is Apple sued Samsung claiming they had a patent on it and Apple won. Apple apparently hasn't sued LG yet.

Most Android devices now offer real-time word prediction as you type, so the old style of correction is now rare.

In any case, you'd be better served asking this question in the Note 3 sub-forum; I'm sure other Note owners will be able to offer suggestions on how to do what you want.

I feel stupid now. When I read the title I thought you wanted now how to spell the word check, haha

Hi there, InGearX. As others have noted, adding a spellchecker to your devices shouldn't be a big deal--many keyboards offer spellchecking in their options. Personally, I don't use a spellchecker anywhere, but I see them in preferences for various things I use, both on my computers and Android devices, so I know they're out there! :)

I've moved this to the Galaxy S3 board so fellow owners of that device can offer specific suggestions.

You may want to also post it on the Note 3 board.
