We should privatize the fire department

Not everyone can afford the outrageous cost of Insurance in the US. Even if they have it the company will try to get rid of them.

Don't kid yourself kid.

They better find a third job because if Obama care is not tossed out, on average, everyone will be required to pay about $2,500.00 per year. And the IRS is tasked with collections, so you will not be able to blow it off or ignore it because of who will be doing the collecting.

As for private fire departments, the money must come from somewhere. Running an FD is costly. So are people here so sure they will be allowed to opt out of private FD services in the first place?

Oh Obamacare is a joke in the way it does nothing to address the corruption of the insurers. I bet all of Washington has gotten free commemorative pens from Insurance and w/e. You will never get prices down much till the gov. steps in in that field.

Your liberty to do whatever you wish with your income comes under attack when the government starts ordering you to buy this and buy that with it.

I like your style.

+ 1 to you FreakyLockz14.

I totally agree with you buddy. It is sad that this world loves governments. I don't get it. I don't know why people fail to understand that it is individuals and individuals alone that have made the world the place it is today...

I do know that governments are necessary but I still don't like any of them.

I despise governments oh boy do I hate governments they are scum, they take away your freedom to do what you want with your money that he / she earned and is rightfully his / hers.

One should be free to do what he / she desires with his / her money as long as it does not hurt any body else.

You have after all... earned it.

Infact, it is against human rights to force some one to pay for something they do not want or might not need or are not obliged to pay for like the fire department issue we are talking about.

Also welfare is against human rights too for example...

For example if you earn R10 000 rands... just for example you have earned it and it is yours if it is done within the law or legally then you have earned it fair and square.

Simple enough...

Now then for example the government taxes you and takes that money or the R10 000 rands and gives it to some beggers then that means the government has stolen money from you.

They have not asked for your permission AT ALL.

Welfare and the fire department are a type of theft. It is a type of theft.

It is a kind of indirect theft because they have taken money from you with out your permission.

It is not direct theft but sadly a kind of "back door" theft.

What if you don't want to pay for fire department protection?

What if you don't believe in welfare or helping others?

It is not your right to help other people as sad as that may seem.

I like to help people don't get me wrong... but I should NOT be forced to help others if I don't want to like welfare and the fire department.

As sad as they may be it is true.

^I doubt you've any experience of living under a competent government. Not our problem tbh.
You don't have wealth redistribution and you and you end up with a Gini as high as SA's.

I'm also opposed to single-payer, but I do have to concede that it is better than the mess that the 111th Congress passed because it's violations of individual liberty are indirect instead of direct.

They are the ones who are harmed. You won't be if you do have protection.

Unless I live in a condo that's attached to someone who's not covered. But whatever.

Now I'm sitting in a pile of rubble because my stupid neighbor didn't pay for fire insurance, but I can sue him now and get money so it's ok I guess. I just lost my house and this never would've happened if we had public fire coverage, but no biggie. I can sue and get money now.

Please, you think Obama is Mao.
k, plz end the personal attacks and get a grip

Look shadow

I did not say Obama is "Mao"

Read carfeully

I am not attacking ANYONE at all.

YOU STARTED with the South African crap.

NOT ME

All I was doing was trying to do was talk about the Fire Department issue

You started

GET A RUDDY GRIP URSELF

That is a damn rude comment.

Restrictive covenants requiring the purchase of fire services cover you.

That still does not mean I totally agree with that post.

I did not totally agree with everything in that post I thanked but yes Obama is bad but that is just my opinoin okay fair enough?

It is an exageration but I got the main point behind the comment that I thanked.

I am not a big fan of Obama so what?

It is a free world well meant to be at least.

Do you understand now?

I brought up tax issue because it represents the government stealing money from those that earn it.

And that means ANY government and I did not say the word South Africa ONCE in that post.

Nothing to do with perosnal attacks at all. But then you came saying this which I find VERY offensive:

That God, as it was the reverse for centuries.

THATS when I got angry.

I just used rands as an example because I am more fimaliar with it and easy to use from my perspective... I could have used rupees... Yen... Dollars anything at all and there is NOTHING to do with South Africa in that post at all.

You are getting confused.

I did not attack anyone at all.

YOU started

He is probably the best president since... I can't think that far past Carter. Perhaps Clinton...

Taking a percentage of their income to provide services that it provides.

Look I am sorry if I offended you.

You are a great young man but need to be realize other peoples feelings and saying blunt comments like this will get you into trouble someday if you are not carfeul:

That God, as it was the reverse for centuries.

And please understand I mean to not offend you but try to be more polite okay?

I am sorry if I have hurt you shadow but chee you got me angry with that one comment.

I was very hurt by that comment.

Try to be more understanding my friend.

We are still buddies right? ;)

Already been addressed. Doesn't apply in this situation. Even so, you can't apply a covenant like that retroactively. The guy next door already owns the condo. You can't arbitrarily apply a contract to him unless he agrees to it. What if he doesn't?

Hmm damn good point actually.

I don't know what to say to this one.

Maybe when the people sign up to buy the house in the Condo / Block of flats they must sign an agreement that every one pays for the fire proctection maybe or they don't buy the house or whatever?

But thats just my 2 cents.

Then there is a legal term for that. It's called shit out of luck.

Anybody actually tried to find examples of privatized FDs and how well they work or how much they fail? Perhaps we are assuming things we should not assume, and the sky is not falling after all.

I think its a rare occurrence, and its hard to get a fair sample based on that.
Perhaps there is good reason its a fair occurence
