Weak Signal Strength

I have yet to see my signal be any better than -100dbm in debug mode. This is kind of bothering me. Along with the poor battery life I am skeptical that I will be keeping the phone.

Do you have another phone to compare it to?

i called CS this morning for a replacement. vzw signal is excellent in my area but i am ranging between -95 and -100 dBm currently. terrible call quality and my 3g data is slower than at&t 2g. getting a replacement in after the weekend.

My roomie has an incredible with signal between 70 and 75

NKT, do you think this is a software bug or hardware bug? I mean what are the odds of me getting two messed up phones?

I wouldn't say it can't happen.

But I would always compare signal level using debug and not by bars. It's been a known issue with some Android phones having signal level and bar display calibration off.

Yeah I'm getting pretty much the exact same numbers with my 2nd incredible as I did with the first one.

If it looks good in debug I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure there will be a software patch rolled out as soon as they start compiling a list of bugs.

My ATT Bold gets -70 everywhere. This phone is awesome but I've dropped two calls. I live in Tampa. This shouldn't be an issue. I can live with the battery until an extended option rolls out but not this.

Cool. I'll do some more tests when I get out of this damn office. Thanks NKT.

I have been having reception issues from the time this thing has been out of the box yesterday. -97 - -88 where I am now, and where my DARE had perfect reception. Dropped my first call this morning (the first for me ever on verizon). I believe the poor reception is also causing the battery to drain, unless the battery completely sucks. 3G Symbol has been grayed out most of the day also with 1-2 bars MAX.

I am disappointed so far. The phone is great, but I need the connectivity to come along with it too. Customer care is sending me a new one, but wont be here until Tuesday (there is nothing available locally).

I have to say that I live on Long Island in NY and have never before had any issue with Verizon reception anywhere locally. This has got to be the phone.... at least for me.

Hopefully the new unit will fix the issue for me.... otherwise..... what to get in its place ????

Sitting here looking at Incredible right now. I am getting 1 bar mainly and dancing bars- sometimes to 4 for a split second. Downloading all of my apps. Droid is rock solid 4 bars, just as it was when I tried one in November (had to return due to could not get out of Tmo contracts).

Nice little phone (Inc). Returning Droid, since I know the radio rocks hard on it. Will test the Droid for a few weeks. If radio reception issue is a myth (seems real to me), I may keep Inc. My G1 served me well... sniff. Coverage and speed of data sucked, but the G1 was a good little trooper. Like Mini-Me, I salute you!

Nice to have cool devices to test :)

ha i just check here at work MY db lvl was at 97 1 bar of 3g and i was albe to watch youtube and a flash video via browser with no lat what so ever ran perfectly smooth...what you all think cosmentic issue with the bars not displaying correctly then??

Why look at the bars. Debug is the ONLY way to get accurate readings of your signal level.

My incredible is averaging (-)80-90dbm signal strength. My friend's LG flip-phone, sitting right next to it, is getting -(62)dbm. I did *228 update on my Incredible too. Maybe these smartphones are just not as good at pulling in a strong signal as normal phones??

NKT -- Could you post a ranges of what is considered a "good" reception reading v. a bad one? (example: -100db+ = bad)

Or if anyone has a link?
