Weather bug vs Weather bug elite

I have been using trhe free verison of weatherf since I got my droid and was wondering does WB Elite really add anything worth paying for? in the market it gives a very limited descripion...something about 7 layers. Any help appreciated.
 
I don't think it adds anything worth paying for, no. I'm pretty sure it just gives you access to more detailed weather information. I guess it's cool if you're into that sort of thing, but I really just need to know the temperature, precicipitation status and forecast.
 
I have Elite and the real "+" of it is weather in motion. The layers are: satellite, high temp. forecast, pressure, low temp. forecast, humidity, wind speed, temp, and radar.

The Weather Channel widget gives that to you for free, but I like Weather Bug because the local reporting station is only 1 1/2 miles from my house.

how do you determine the location of your local reporting station?

When you add a location (menu, locations, add location at the bottom) it brings up a box for you to edit the location name and also to select the weather station to use...
 
Thanks for the input. I am an avid weather spotter and like the weather bug and the weather channel both. What I really would like to have is an overlay of watches and warnings over the radar map with the data and watches and warnings displayed at the same time. So, WB Elite does not add that feature then??
 
WB Elite removes the ads and if I recall correctly it also adds a 1x4 widget (I think that is right, 4 across 1 down). I updated to Android 2.1 and haven't had a chance yet to update my build to allow Elite to show in the Market.

I am having the same problem, how do I update my build for 2.1?

I wouldn't call myself an avid weather spotter, but being in Kansas I love to go out looking for tornadoes when there is rotation in the area. I'm a weather buff, but I usually don't go too far from home.

I just upgraded to Elite yesterday. For $2 it's a good deal. It has radar in motion, plus a radar widget to put on the home screen (not in motion). More options for forecast and current weather widgets. Detailed hourly forecasts. It's not earth shattering, but it's nice.

It does have a wind speed layer so you can switch from radar to wind speed. Will it show real time rotation? I don't know. It also has the option to turn on lightning strike indication.

Now what you need if you are storm chasing is a laptop and PDANet. You can teather your Droid and laptop. So you can be on the road with internet access on your laptop. Then you have access to nice, large radar maps where you can zoom in and see what's going on. That's what I'll be doing. :)
 
I just saw that there is a box to check to enable alert boxes on the map, but I'm not sure what that means. I checked it, and I don't see any alerts.......but the only thing out there right now are flood watches and red flag warnings, etc. It will be interesting to see if it puts thunderstorm watches and warnings over the map.
 
I just found that there's some weather in south Texas. There is a watch box on the map with a flood statement. What I don't understand is there are a couple of other counties with flood warnings but no box on the map. Maybe Weatherbug only shows boxes for active storms. But it looks like there are probably going to be warning/watch boxes for storms and tornadoes.
 
I recently purchased WeatherBug Elite and I think it's worth the $2. I mostly use it for the 1x4 widget with a 3-day forecast for one of my home screens, and the motion radar is nice as well. Oh, and it removes the ads, too. If you don't want/need those features you can always stick with the free one (which does come with the 1x1 widget, which is the reason I use WeatherBug over other weather apps).
 
I like that I can put 3 widgets on my screen for 3 different locations. I have one for home, one for my parents home and one for the vacation location I'm off to next month.
 
Is anyone still having the GPS issues with Weatherbug....what about Elite? i.e. When I install Weatherbug, it throws my GPS off by a couple of miles.

Uninstall it and reboot, GPS back to dead on.
 
I love the weather bug elite application because, as others have said, the 3X1 widget that shows the 3 day forecast. The other day, I was out to dinner with a few people and someone asked what the weather was looking like for tomorrow? All I had to do was pull out my phone, flick over, check the 3 day widget, and be done. It took me about 10 seconds

Gave it another shot today. Really liked the widget. Turned on maps. BAM! GPS was off by almost 3 miles. Uninstalled, rebooted, opened maps, DEAD ON!

Any ideas? :confused:
 
WBE is so worth the $2. I am an outdoor athlete so weather is crucial and WBE provides about as much detail as any weather app can. everyone else covered what it can do, I just vouch for how awesome it is. I also really like being able to set favs so I can cycle through areas I visit and get THEIR weather.
 
When I had my iPhone I had weather bug for about a year before I upgraded to elite. It was worth it for me just to get rid of the adds, its only a couple bucks.

BTW, now on my droid I just use the built in weather widget. I do like weather bug more, I just didn't see a reason to have 2 weather apps on my phone so I just use the built in one.

Yeah, I liked that one to, except the temps were always off. one day it said it was 99 degrees when it was only 76 :eek: Just checked it now--> Weatherbug on my buddies phone was reporting 76 - beautiful widget on my phone said 76 and the 2.1 widget was reading 88......


When I installed weatherbug yesterday, the GPS was relatively accurate (but not perfect) here at work. But when I got home is when it was reporting 3 miles away.
 
I like the elite version because of no ads and the nice widget but I don't use the GPS bit as it uses more battery so I have it set to follow my phone. Works fine and is equally accurate here in central Alabama. I travel through 3 small cities every day and it is right on target all the time. Without GPS. :D
 
One app I really miss from my former WinMo devices is the old Mars Weather app. Nice customizable main screen "widget" that showed current weather and upcoming days, animated weather radar, etc., all in a nice compact look.
