Help webmail 1&1 will not add account since ICS

I upgraded to ICS 4.0.3. from gingerbread . . 5. and my 1&1 email account will not add (this was never a problem before it was set up with the little gold star next to it with a P in the middle of the star)

Error message I mostly get is cannot connect to server amongst one or two others, any help would be greatly appreciated as the only other alternative would be to downgrade back to gingerbread.

Sorry, I missed the point. Do you want to use your 1&1 Mail account within your browser (using webmail - just tried: works) or do you want to use an application (which one?).

"little gold star" and a "P in the middle of the star" - what does that mean?
 
These are the settings i'm using in stock email app:

Incoming settings:
User name - email address
Password - password
Pop3 server - pop.1and1.co.uk
Security type - none
Port - 110
delete from server - never

Outgoing settings:
SMTP server - auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk
Security type - none
Port - 587

tick in require sign in - enter username and password as above.

To clarify

on gingerbread the account was labelled premium for some reason and when I open the client I had my list of accounts. next to the 1&1 account there was a little P in a gols star next to it. never knew what for. Just thought I would mention it. Nothing in ICS in the set up mentions premium.

Yes I want to use the stock client/App not the browser. I had no problems on GB only now my 1&1 account has vanished.

for the record I also tried K-9 and that wont work either.

Alex you are using pop ? my account is imap does it work on both?

The pop settings you gave me worked a treat. up and running now. I was considering going back to gingerbread that couldv been messy

Actually just noticed that emails with certain attachments don't work (the email comes in but not the attached file) a PNG image and a jpeg images dont appear to come through. images saved as a file attachment and pdf/word docs still ok.

Is there an incompatibility on certain image/files?

Premium Account means that changes to the email account in your phone would be reflected in the server where the emails are retrieved from. Works a treat under GB, but have issues under ICS.

Actually was going to ask for these as today I noticed that my handset does not send mail - only receives
no error message other than message failed and they they just sit in my outbox.

I didnt realise as I only tried sending mail today, incoming has no problem:mad:

The saga continues.................
