Webtop Apps for Photon / Lapdock 100-500

I figure this would be the thread to discuss which apps are useful to use on either Lapdock (100 or 500) and the Photon.

Discuss, those that work, those that don't, tips and tricks etc, external hacks etc, etc.

Post away.

I just pulled this sweet device (Lapdock 100 for my Sprint Photon) out of the box... and nothing. Not working.. Screen keeps flashing off on and displays the phone, but nothing else.

I can't figure it out, manual stinks and their customer service is closed. Would have liked to show this off at my sales meeting tomorrow. Any advice besides call customer service during business hours?

Welcome to the forums.

Don't take this the wrong way, but is it plugged in. :D

No seriously, I mean it. usually I am used to devices to have a little bit of juice when i take them out of the box. But the lapdock 100 did not have none.
So i had to plug it in and wait a few minutes before it actually got a little bit of juice to start up. after that it kept charging itself.

Then there is the issue of making sure that the connection cable is properly attached to the phone. Cause it has a tendency to not be properly attached (on the right side port) due to how thick the cable is. This usually happens to me if i insert the phone in that rear holding bin slot. That alone cause the screen to come in and out at times.

My friend had this same issue...he had not done the firmware update yet on his photon....did the update and then it worked fine. Goto menu, settings, about phone, system updates, update motorola software. Other option is to power phone completely off..then turn on. when it turns back on, it will usually prompt you for the system update and you can follow the instructions.

I have found that running other launchers messes up webtop launching correctly. I also found that you need to already have the screen lifted and then plug the phone for it to boot up webtop and launch quickly. Before that I would get in a mirror to moto logo flip back and forth like something was blocking the screen from straight HDMI use and not activating the trigger to bring up webtop. Seems stupid to me. There should just be the options list of webtop, mirror mode and the rest. I hope to find a way for the option to just run the lapdock in straight mirror mode on the lapdock if I want to. Should use less memory and be better unless I want the full browser of webtop. I did have it work in straight mirror mode once during a call with Moto tech support as they had me clearing data to resolve an issue. It was triggered from stopping and clearing data on dock services and some other related that I didn't write down so maybe someone else knows the answer. My big complaint is the cord is pretty short and very rigid. When you put the phone in the phone slot due to the short rigid cord you need to pre-bend it around quite a bit without kinking it. I did notice that the strain relief part of the cord can pull out a little from the lapdock to let the flex section of it twist upward a bit better. Hopefully this is actually a planned part of the design and there's no risk to anything internally by doing this. It seems fine on mine and it helps relieving some stress on the hdmi/usb sockets when docked.

I am able to launch simple mirror mode on my lapdock 100 by using a 3rd party app (battery indicator pro) that lets me turn off the stock lock screen. Without Webtop being launched the actual screen size is not scaled to fit the full frame of the lapdock's LCD but it is still much bigger than the phone's. In straight mirror mode, demanding phone apps, like games, run with more resources and thus can get full frame-rate unlike if webtop is active. If the FPS games like Nova 2 etc had mouse and keyboard support this would make for a pretty cool little portable game setup when traveling. I am going to try Onlive with webtop running and without and see how it well it works.

Mouse mode does not translate correctly in the Lapdock's tricked mirror mode beyond the android GUI so for now forget about using OnLive with M/K and FPS. Tested with Metro 2033 which did play fine visually just no good way to control it...yet.

I can confirm that SlingPlayer and Dish Remote Access both work awesome fullscreen on the Lapdock 100/Photon 4G combo.

Hulu actually works great on mine.
Netflix will not work with the firefox browser but will work wit the netflix app in full screen. You do have to turn the phone over with netflix otherwise it will be upside down.

Yup. I concur on this. When I first tried Netflix, I completely forgot how someone mentioned that the phone has to stay out of the docking area in order for it to play right side up. It wasn't until I went back on here that I re-read that info and tried again and it worked perfectly.

If it weren't for needing my tablet for work notes, I seriously would consider selling it already, just because of the lapdock.

When selecting webtop apps to install,a menu/choice of 4 different versions is given.
Does anyone know which version is the correct one to install?

Thinking of getting this phone and the lapdock intrigues me. Does it work with all apps? Can I use Google Navigation or Sprint Telenav? Thanks.
