Week 9 QB

My current QB, Sam Bradford will be on bye next week. I am in a 12 man league and almost everyone has 2 QB's on their rosters. These are the only people available to pickup:
David Garrard - on bye not an option
Jason Campbell
Josh Freeman
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Troy Smith - on bye not an option
Matt Cassel
Derek Anderson
Matt Moore

In this league QB's get .5 PPC, 1 PT per 15 Yds, and 5 Pts per TD.

Any suggestions?

I would say you take garrard and smith off the list since they are on bye too =P

Fitzpatrick v. chicago or Freeman v. ATL. I would say.... fitzpatrick cause chicago looking horrible.

I don't like any of the options but I guess I would go Freeman against Atlanta. I'd say Fitz but I usually don't underestimate Chicago DEF.

I could try for a trade, but I don't have that much to offer...

Take Fitz. I've had him for 4 weeks now, never let me down. Even yesterday he ended with 26 points: a low for him. In the first 5 weeks he put up tons of numbers, and in week 7 he got over 50 points I believe against baltimore. He's on my starting list no matter what along with Rivers. I'm actually surprised to see his name on that list and Hasslebeck's not...

I have been offered a trade
Mark Sanchez for Tony Gonzales
And, I have the option of a trade back after this week.
Thoughts?

So you get Sanchez this week and trade back after a week? Sanchez does usually bounce back from a bad week.

You'll probably be keeping dustin keller in anyway, and since NYJ's bye week is already passed, you really don't need gonzalez. Go with Sanchez, he'll bounce back after the shutout this last week. In any case, he's a better choice than Vince Young anyway, so you'd have your choice of Bradford or Sanchez, depending on the defense they go against. I wouldn't ever put Young in. I had him, traded him weeks ago.

Easy choice. Freeman.

It's still not 100% that Jason Campbell will get the start, Fitzpatrick is hit and miss & on a 0-7 team who's headed for more in the "L" column, and Kansas is a run-first team. The only one in there that would be a maybe is Derek Anderson because of Fitzgerald but I don't see the same Kurt Warner chemistry there yet.

Ftizpatrick is my backup (for Schaub ever since Romo got hurt) and I have to say his season has been promising. Not elite, but a solid pick. Freeman seems the same. Either of them.

You're missing the point of fantasy football here. Even though the Bills haven't gotten a win, that doesn't mean Fitzpatrick and his offense never earned one (or more). The defense is what killed it for them. Fitz has been putting up very respectable numbers all season, and a few of those games he put up 30+, 40+, and even a 50+ point game.

Fantasy football doesn't care if the team wins, it cares how many points are made for completions and good plays.

Fitz is only expected to earn 18+/- points this week against the Bears, who have only given up 4 passing TD's all season, but I'm still starting him as my flex QB spot. Rivers is my main QB, and hasselbeck is my third string for when Rivers is on bye. Even though he's got a few more expected points than Fitz, he hasn't had any consistency on producing quality points, so I'm not starting him.

I would go with Fitz, he has been really good considering he plays for the Bills, they do have some decent talent at WR, that is the one thing that pushes him over Freeman in my opinion.

And you're also forgetting the simple fact of team morale in on-field play. When a team has a chance at the playoffs, when they see that light at the end of the tunnel, they will play harder and longer in each game to try and reach that goal. When a team is 0-7 and the chances of a playoff spot are long gone, what's left to play for? Pride? Your job? At this point people on the Bills are only working hard enough to keep their jobs next year and that's it. They're not going to push so hard that they break their leg for a team that isn't going anywhere.

You always, always, always go for the players on the teams that with motivation and drive. Regardless if Fitz has one good game here or there, the better 'buy' is someone who is going to fight for the yards in all 16 games. Someone like Freeman who is trying to lead his team to a playoff spot & a chance at the Big Game. Regardless of what team they're playing, that motivation will overcome deficiencies elsewhere.

Of course that's a big consideration, but it's not the only one. This is professional football, not pee-wee league. They're not going to just stop trying because they have no shot at the playoffs; the motivation is always there. Whether it's to get that first win, to try and finish with wins from here on out, or simply to keep their jobs, the motivation is there. If they don't try as hard as they can, then the owners, investors, and coaches will be less apt to keep them on board. When you make as much as a football player does, the motivation to keep your job over being released and nobody else picking you up is tremendous. Who wants to fall back on a career based on their college degree when you're already making 500k+ per year doing what you love? If that's not motivation, I don't know what is.

These are grown adults, and as such, they think like grown adults. They don't just give up and try to skate by when things don't go their way. They're working as a team, and as such, think of each game as a new opportunity to win back their fans and fellow teammates. They're not all embedded with the mindset of Randy Moss :D

Should I start Schuab or Stafford? (Sorry to thread jack, but it seemed better than a whole new thread).

Stafford. Schuab going up against SD pass d and texans playing poorly anyways

Stafford is playing the Jets though, which is my dilemma. I know SD is very good against QBs, but the Jets scare me with INT potential.

hmm didn't know jets info. maybe the other way then. rivers going to kill Houston pass d so they will have to throw later in game to catch up.

The Jets are pretty much average against the pass, while the Chargers are #1, in terms of fantasy production.

Stafford is projected to have 1.5 more points as well. It might just be a coin flip scenario.

San Diego has players that are a pretty big threat for interceptions, too. We also just broke our losing bout, so we've got motivation and a win to fuel us through Houston's issues as of late. Seeing as San Diego has always been a come back in the 4'th quarter and after the 5'th game team, I'd go with stafford this week.
