Weight of Thunderbolt

Lurker
Hi - I just got the Thunderbolt, and really love the phone. The one concern I have is that it feels pretty heavy to me, and am wondering if anyone has had any problems holding it to make long phone calls. Driving, I would use a hands-free, but not always at other times. Just wondering if over time the weight has bothered anyone else? Thanks -

I'm generally used to it, but for me, where I most notice it is when surfing for long periods of time. I typically hold the phone loosely with my pinky holding it up at the bottom and other fingers around it. After a while my pinky does hurt from the heavy phone so I'm having to figure out some other way to hold it. And its strengthening my fingers too.

Its a bit heavier than my old phone, but I haven't really noticed any issues. I'd say that I'm pretty used to it at this point.

it just weighs .13 oz more than a droid 2 global. So I think its more mental than anything. The phone is bigger than many on the market. So it should weigh more than smaller phones.
I have no problem holding the phone for long periods of time talking. Also surfing the web I have no pain in the fingers or hands.

Thanks for all your replies! It probably will take some getting used to then, for me, especially since my last phone was not a smartphone - so this is a huge jump in size for me. I appreciate your comments -

the way i figure, it still weighs less than my old chordless lan line. i have to say, when it seems heaviest is when i'm laying down trying to hold it above my face (do not attempt at home)

A good reason to start hitting the gym ;). The only time i really noticed the weight was when i took it out of the box. I am used to the weight now.

LOL! I hear ya. One night instead of counting sheep, I decided to count angry birds to put me to sleep. It worked like a charm until I smacked myself in the nose with my TB. :D

am i the only person that likes the heft to it? the only issue i have is the thickness of this little monster (that's what she said). and i really don't even mind that.

Nope. I like it myself actually. Not that it really matters as to it's performance, just personal preference.

For 15 minutes a day, hold a full milk jug up to your ear. After a while the phone will feel like a feather!

I noticed the phone's weight before I got a case, I think because it is just very slippery in your hand.

With the case I get good grip and don't notice the weight. I do miss the sleekness of no case though.

LOL!

When I got my TB, I put a case on it and I guess I just wasn't expecting the heft of the case and phone together and it would slip/slide from my grip the first week I had it. Almost 2 months later, I'm used to the weight of the phone and I guess I know how to grip the phone so that it doesn't slide. I love the weight of the phone with case, it's pretty solid. You'll get used to it.

I have never found a phone that weighed too much so I like the weight just fine. I have worked with hundreds of phones. I could understand size being an issue for some people but not weight.

Maybe if a phone weighed 1 pound, but this thing weighs around .38 pounds.

...

You also mentioned using it while driving so I'll elaborate on my experience with that.

I have found it near impossible to use because it requires 2 hands and 2 eyes to do anything intelligent. It should only require at most 1 hand and no eyes.

Even if I had it propped up with a holder, I can tell that using it with one hand would still not be good because the car would still be shaking as I drive.

I believe this is more of a concern with touch interfaces in general, and a reason to have more hard buttons.

Sure, I could get a hands free, but these things are mostly designed for calling and maybe texting if you're lucky. Voice technology is getting better but it's still getting there and it is still too gimmicky and buggy for me.
