I've only notied this recently but the Calendar is showing up on the battery usage as downloading about 30 MB of data in 7 overnight hours... It constantly shows up as taking 2% of the battery's time, which is an awful lot since I'm not using it overnight...
I have Spare Parts and it is showing that the Calendar is number 2 after Internet in Network usage...

The bytes Received seems like a lot... I last booted up yesterday at 5 PM.
Now, I have limited the sync only to my Google Calendar and overnight the email does not check...
What the heck is going on... I've done multiple tests on this and have no answer...
