Help Weird characters in text mesages

[johnnyjp]

hi

im on orange uk with a branded froyo desire.

sometimes when i send / receive text messages, i get a set of weird symbols instead of the real text. usually its an at (@) followed by a triangle and some other symbols...

it used to happen before but it never affected the other messages and i just deleted those weird ones, but last week after trying to send a message to my brother i got this weird text again and suddenly all my old text messages were gone! entire history!

has anyone experienced such problems? is there any solution for that? i want to get my messages back!

I'm on orange in the UK as well. I do get the weird little texts from time to time as well. I think somebody else on here said that these were SIM updates from orange.
One thing you may want to think about in the future is to back up your texts to your gmail account. I use sms backup from the market. This seems to work fine and also means you can go onto a pc and your Google account and see all (and search) your texts.
You may want to check on your account anyway - faint hope but maybe they have been backed up?
