Help Weird Contacts Merge Issue

Hos

Lurker
We are beginning to deploy the RAZR MAXX at my firm in leu of BlackBerry handhelds. And one of our first users noticed a problem with his contacts shortly after the unit was deployed. For ease of use, he wanted me to have Good (Good is the app we use to get our corporate email on our Droid and iOS devices) sync with the Droid contacts folder. So yes, it merged the contacts and we are aware of the ability to "separate contacts" (which is not a suitable solution if there are a lot to be separated).

But here is where it gets really bad:

Only problem is that a lot of times, it is over-writing the Good contacts which has the firm data. As opposed to having two email addresses, it will only show one - usually the one from the users Gmail account. I've tried disabling the sync between the Gmail account and the Droid contacts. That didn't work, the contacts left the Droid Contacts folder, but the information remained in the contacts that were merged between Good and Gmail. I even wiped the device (twice), and before installing Good, disabled the Gmail contacts from syncing (I did this both from the display options in the contacts list AND the accounts management in settings). But when I import the Good contacts, even though the Gmail contacts never (visually) touched the Droid contacts folder, it is still somehow grabbing that information. This is where it is weird, I'm expecting the data to not stay if I am not synching the Gmail contacts. Especially when I wiped the device twice.

Now the Good contacts (and thus the user's Outlook contacts) are preserved. The Gmail information did not sync to them - which is good.

I contacted Motorola and they were utterly useless. I left off with the manager of 2nd level support admitting he had no idea why it was happening. I was too busy and frustrated to pursue. Even though I plan on calling back tomorrow.

I really don't get how this information is seeping in. It's obvious that the information is still syncing in the backgroud, how can I stop it? But it makes no sense that after two wipes, disabling Gmail contacts from synching before installing Good, then installing Good, setting Good to sync with the Droid contacts folder that information that is supposedly not syncing is still MERGING with those contacts. I dont' think this is a problem with Good as online research has netted that this issue is happening with email accounts other than good.

Has anybody heard of this - I can see the merging being by design, but if the contacts aren't in the same folder, the information should not be merging.

Any ideas or confirmation on why this is would be greatly apprecited. This could be an issue as we begin to use this model going forward.

Thanks.
