Help Weird GPS problem with google navigation

Hi guys,

My GPS has been working fine with Google Nav since I bought it in January this year. I haven't used navigation in a while until recently, when I found it be losing GPS locks constantly even if I'm not moving. The problem seems to resolve whenever I run Google Navigation in the background (meaning, home screen on and voice navigation still working). So if navigation is running in the background, GPS never loses lock, but whenever I revert to the Navigation screen, I lose the lock constantly. Has anyone had similar problems?

Phone: Samsung Captivate running Android 2.2 stock, unrooted

Thanks.

Also, other GPS apps like Endomondo or Car Home Ultra are working fine and getting good GPS locks consistently. I know Google Maps was recently updated to 5.5, could it have something to do with the recent update?

I'll download GPS status and see what happens.

Still not working. GPS loses lock constantly, even after GPS status installed, resetting GPS, and using GPSrestore from Samsung. Still works with other 3rd party apps.

I have the same trouble. Google maps is terrible, Copilot works a little better. I am on my second Captivate...both had terrible GPS.

I'm using Waze right now, which is good for its traffic reports, but bad at navigation. It maintains GPS lock forever. Latest update of google maps (5.6.2) has slightly improved GPS but still loses lock after a while. I noticed that it loses locks a lot more on edge than on 3G. I don't know if it has something to do with map caching or cell tower triangulation. I tried enabling/disabling prefetch maps and clearing cache and still doesn't work. So frustrating.
